BYUtv’s Christmas Under the stars
with John Legend FYC Mailer

Each year BYUtv sets out to be nominated for Emmy awards in a variety of categories. In 2020, we had the unique opportunity to feature John Legend in our annual Christmas music special, Christmas Under the Stars. I was more than thrilled to be able to create the For Your Consideration (FYC) mailer that went out to all those who have the influence of nominating their favorite programs. Normally, production companies and streaming services go all out to impress the FYC committee with the experience of their series or program including special packaging and keepsake DVDs of their content. That year, in 2020, the FYC committee required each FYC mailer to be as economical as possible with no physical DVDs as part of the experience. Committee members were required to view the content on a password-protected online viewer. With that criteria in mind, and being inspired by the jazz and R&B style of John Legend’s music, I designed a 45 record sleeve with a “record” inside. The record featured concentric circle lines raised with spot gloss to imitate the grooves that you normally see and feel on a record, and on back of the record was an invite to view the special online along with the password.
